(Bag includes Big Fish of the tournament. )

Louisville, KY – September 20, 2020 – Catfish anglers from seven states traveled to the Ohio River at Jeffersonville, IN for a King Kat Tournament Trail event presented by Bass Pro Shops Cabela’s. Thirteen teams gathered to test their catfishing skills against other anglers and Mother Nature.

Anglers fishing the September 19, 2020 event were vying for $3,185 in cash and prizes, and an opportunity to qualify for the $120,000 Classic Championship to be held October 30 – 31, 2020 on Milford Lake in Milford, KS.

The day started out windy and 41 degrees before reaching a comfortable 75 degrees. The wind had calmed to a slight breeze by weigh-in time.

Results for the Top Catfish Teams

First Place and Big Fish

The win at Jeffersonville went to last year’s Classic winners, Wayne and Travis Bodine from Bardstown, KY. They teamed up to bring 120.32 pounds to the scales and earn a check for $1,800. They added $260 for Big Fish of the tournament. Their big blue weighed in at 47.05 pounds.

Travis said they caught the Big Fish below the dam using Skip Jack. They were in water about 15 feet deep. The team bumped and caught around 10 fish all day. Their fish came doing what they like best—bumping in depths ranging from 8 to 40 feet deep.

Second Place

The runner-up spot went to Don Elder from Louisville, KY, and Jason Geary and Cage Dean from Nabb, IN. They weighed a total of 70.36 pounds to earn a check for $700.

“The day started off cold. We were spot-locking at the dam in Louisville on a heavy current seam. Fresh skipjack was our bait of choice. We caught them the day before in Tennessee. Bait fishing is about as fun as cat fishing,” joked Elder.

The team reported a slow bite, but managed to put 4 fish in the livewell before 11:00 am. Nothing really happened bite wise after that. They lost the use of the trolling motor when a cell went out in their battery.

“We went old school,” Elder said. “After throwing out the anchor on a drop off we got our big fish in about 20 feet of water. All this technology is fine, but old school thinking sometimes wins out.”

Their biggest fish weighed 41.06 pounds. It was one of 5 fish total that the team caught on the day.

Third Place

Kevin Lafollette from Eminence, KY and William Nisong from Henryville, IN teamed up to take the third spot. The team weighed a bag of 70.28 pounds to claim third place and earn a check for $425.

Reporting a cold and windy start to the day, Lafollette and Nisong fished below Cannelton Dam. They used mooneye and skipjack to boat around 20 fish on the day. They caught their fish by bottom bouncing in 6 to 24 feet of water.
