Results for the Top Teams

Sunny skies both Friday and Saturday with ENE winds at 5 - 10mph and temperatures in the 80's all weekend provided excellent conditions for the anglers, with Day 2 being a tougher day for the anglers with warm water and current. Daryl and Jason Masingale, both of Paragould, Arkansas took first place of the Super Event, weighing in at 218.94 pounds and earning $4,000.00, plus an additional $820.00 for Big Fish of the tournament. The team made the 3-hour drive to fish the event arriving at the beginning of the week during the eclipse. They have placed in the top 5 every time we have had a tournament in the area. Team Masingale fished from Dam 52 to Olmsted Dam, thinking the new Olmsted Dam would improve fishing. They tried different techniques, but drifting worked best over structure in 15 – 60 feet of water. They used skipjack for bait to land 20 total fish for the weekend. The team stated that it was a little tougher due to warmer water. Jason also stated that fishing was different because normally the water is still and this year there was a current.

Taking second place were Tim and Tom Walsh, both of Danvers, Illinois with a total weight of 195.34 pounds and earned $2,000.00. The team fished from Metropolis to the Olmsted Dam finding their fish in places you wouldn't normally look for catfish. They drifted in 15 – 25 feet of water using skipjack for bait to catch 22 fish for the event.

Adam Dehner of Independence, Kentucky and Chris Pelzel of Harrison, Ohio took third place weighing in at 187.84 pounds and earned $1,000.00. The team fished below Olmsted Dam, drifting in 30 – 60 feet of water using skipjack for bait. They held tight to wood structure, landing 90 fish for the weekend.

In fourth place were Terry Rogers of Benton, Kentucky and William Clapp of Wingo, Kentucky weighing in at 167.54 pounds and earning $500.00. The team fished below Olmsted on flats in 40 feet of water, finding their fish on mussel beds and structure, using skipack for bait to catch 80 fish for the tournament.

Chris Souders of Oak Hill, Ohio and Nick Conaway of Lucasville, Ohio took fifth place with a total weight of 164.82 pounds and earned $300.00. The team fished in the Cairo area, this being the first time fishing in this location in 25 – 50 feet of water over structure using skipjack for bait to land 20 fish for the weekend. The team also won Angler of the Year for 2017! Congratulations to Chris and Nick!

In sixth place were Jon Vaden of Arlington, Kentucky and Jon Goldsmith of Bardwell, Kentucky weighing in at 154.80 pounds and earning $200.00.

A special thank you to the Paducah Convention and Visitors Bureau for hosting the event and making it all work smoothly. Also, a thank you to Matt and Melissa Miles with Katfish Clothing for making the trip from Virginia to support the catfish anglers at this weekends event. We are excited to be returning to such a great fishery in 2018 and 2019!
