Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway at Columbus, Mississippi

This past Saturday, February 3, 2018 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway in Columbus, Mississippi. In our first local event of 2018 we had over 30 anglers from 8 states competing not only for the $3,500.00 in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2018 Cabela’s King Kat Classic to be held September 14 and 15, 2018 on the Ohio River in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Results for the Top Teams

Tournament day saw sunny to partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 50's and light winds out of the southeast at 10-15mph, water temperatures were holding in the mid to upper 40's. Joey and Jerry Pounders (Steens, MS and Caledonia, MS) took first place of the event, weighing in at 69.54 pounds and earning $1,800.00, plus an additional $260 for Big Fish. The team fished south of Columbus near the Alabama/Mississippi line in 20 feet of water over mainlake wood structure. Team Pounders caught 4 fish on 5-6 inch shad while keeping their boat anchored shallow and casting into deeper water. Congratulations Team!

Taking second place were Trevor Nederhoff of Calera, AL and Josh Brown of Rainbow City, AL with a total weight of 31.55 pounds and earned $700.00. This was the first time fishing this section of the lake for the team, staying closer south towards Alabama. Trevor and Josh kept their boat anchored shallow, casting into 30 feet of water around wood structure using bowfin for bait to land one good fish for the day.

Doug Jolly of West Point, MS and Jeff Honnoll of Steens, MS took third place weighing in at 28.64 pounds and earned $450.00. The team fished south of Columbus finding their fish in structure, anchoring in 20-30 feet of water, using shad with a mixed bag of flat head and blues for bait. They were the only team to weigh-in a full limit for the tournament.
